Holiday Teeth Friendly Recipes

It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but for teeth, all those holiday jingles sing a different tune! Unfortunately, the foods and sweets we love to enjoy during this time of year can pose a major threat to teeth, making the holidays a dangerous time for your smile. Thankfully, though, your teeth don’t have to suffer during the holidays – and neither do you. Here are some delicious holiday recipes that won’t do too much damage to teeth!

Bag-Baked Apples

Everyone loves apple pie, but unfortunately, all the sugar and butter can do a number on teeth. Thankfully, this recipe provides a tooth-friendly – and deliciously easy – alternative.

Ingredients

1 large apple
1 teaspoon water
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

Directions

Making it is as easy as the ingredients suggest. Just cut the apple into slices, throw everything into a ziplock bag, and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Serve in a bowl – maybe with the frozen yogurt below – and dig in!

Peach Frozen Yogurt

Ice cream is another holiday favorite, but it’s full of fat and sugar that make it hard on teeth. This substitute uses yogurt, which is filled with calcium to help keep teeth strong!

Ingredients

1 lb bag frozen peaches
1 qt yogurt
Juice of 1/2 small lemon
2-3 tbsp honey

Directions

Making this one is as easy as the apples. Just throw everything into a blender and mix until smooth and creamy! Delicious, easy, and great for teeth.

Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are a staple during the holidays, and fortunately, they’re friendly to your teeth. Here’s a recipe that’s sure to wow everyone at the table!

Ingredients

5 lbs Russet potatoes, peeled & cut into 1″ cubes
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup butter, cut into chunks
1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 to 1 cup milk, warm
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Directions

This one is simple, but takes some planning ahead. Throw your potatoes, butter, and broth into a crock pot, then cook them on high for 4 and a half hours. After that, add the other ingredients – holding off on the milk – and mash everything until it’s roughly mixed. Stir in the milk, continuing to mash, until you get the right consistency, and enjoy!
